About Our Window Gardens:
TealCo.net stocks many different types of windowsill gardens. They are all small enough to fit on a window sill, and they all have plants specially selected to be easily grown indoors at windows that get at least some sunlight during the day. (The more light, the better, though.) There are 2 different types of kits:
Terrarium Gardens - Terrariums are closed-space gardens, meaning that they have a lid instead of being exposed to open air. The lid's most important function is to retain moisture as it is respired by the plants. It does this by forcing the water to condensate on the lid and drip back into the garden's soil to be recycled over and over by the plants, which means that terrarium gardens only have to be watered a few times per year instead of daily.
All of our terrarium gardens come with premixed soil that must be moistened prior to planting the seeds. Some plants, such as the Venus Flytrap, also require additional steps that are detailed in their included instructions to prepare the seeds for sprouting.
Open Air Gardens - Open air windowsill gardens do not have lids like terrarium gardens. Open air gardens allow direct a direct view of the plants instead of looking through a clear lid, but they require watering every day or two because there is no lid to prevent evaporation. The Chia Herb Garden is an example of an open-air garden, and it has each species of plant in its own planter. They can live their whole life on a windowsill in this planter, or they can be transplanted into larger pots or an outdoor garden for larger plants.
The Medieval Herber is another example of an open-air window garden. It also has its plants exposed to open air and required frequent watering, but it is different than the Chia Herb Garden in that its different plant species are all planted in the same container, making transplanting to a larger garden virtually impossible if the plants are to be separated by species. (They make a great decoration, though.)
