(One strip of five [5] CR2016 batteries.)
The original FlashFlight lighted discs are possibly the best selling light-up frisbee discs on the market. They are made of tough plastic that takes a lot of abuse, and light from the single super bright LED in the center of the disc is transferred to the outer edge of the discs by fiber optics. Transferring the light to the outer edge makes it easier to keep your eye on the part you're going to catch as it zooms toward you than it would be if the light only came from the center of the frisbee disc.
FlashFlight's original light-up frisbees are available in Red, Green, and Blue. They used to offer White and Purple, too, but those colors have now gone the way of the Dodo bird and are no longer available.
All FlashFlight light-up frisbee discs stay lighted with two CR2016 lithium wafer batteries (included) for hours of Ultimate Frisbee action! The batteries keep the light going for a long time, but they are also easy to find, cheap to buy, and very quick & simple to replace.

Before LEDs, the only practical source of light was the light bulb. Light bulbs produce light by heating a filament so hot that it makes white light. (That's why it's called "white hot" instead of "red hot".) In order to keep the filament from burning out, they have to be encased in a vacuum or an inert gas inside a glass bulb. For one thing, it takes a lot of electricity to keep the filament in a light bulb hot enough to make light, which means they need BIG batteries. Big batteries are too heavy for use on a frisbee, and they get drained quickly and need replacement. Aside from that, the glass bulbs are very fragile and would be likely broken in no time if they got banged around like a frisbee gets banged around under normal use.
LEDs (light emitting diodes) are very different than light bulbs. They produce light by releasing photons directly from ions in electrical current. (Click here for more info on how LEDs work.) LEDs do not need a glass bulb because there is no filament to burn up, and they do not use as much electricity because they don't use heat to make light. LEDs were invented more than ten years ago, but production cost made them impractical for use on inexpensive items like frisbees and other toys.
