Zero Blaster Smoke Ring Gun Mechanism of Operation
Zero Blaster smoke ring shooters work by two mechanisms: The smoke/fog maker and the ring shooter. The fog making mechanism works by pumping fog fluid onto a heating element in the front of the gun's barrel. The fog fluid is stored in a tank under the barrel of the gun, and there is a manual pump operated by squeezing the handle. When the handle is squeezed, the fog fluid is pumped from the tank, up to the end of the "barrel", and onto the heating element. The heating element vaporizes the fog fluid, and it fills the fog chamber with thick, smoky fog that looks like smoke. Any fog fluid not vaporized by the heating element is drained back into the storage tank.
The smoke ring-making mechanism is simpler than the fog making mechanism. The fog chamber, where the heating element is mounted, has a flexible membrane across its rear wall, and behind it is a spring-operated plunger. When the trigger is pulled part of the way back, it pulls the plunger back from the fog chamber's flexible membrane and stretches the spring. When the trigger is pulled all the way back, it releases the plunger and causes to strike against the fog chamber membrane.
Zero Blaster Smoke Ring Gun Physics
The air inside the fog chamber is forced out through the hole in front, or the muzzle of the fog gun. The center of the hole lets air pass most easily, while the edges of the hole provide some resistance and slows the passage of air. Due to the pressure difference between the air going through the center of the opening and the air going through the edges, the air swirls around a low pressure center that keeps the fog rotating around it. This action is called the Coanda effect.
